The Capitation Grant rate for 2026/27 is €274 per student. In the 2026/27 school year, the grant will be paid to schools in 3 instalments; September 2026, January 2027 and June 2027.
Details can be found in the Information Note SDF 02/2026 from the Department of Education and Youth. The grant is based on a minimum enrolment of 60.
Capitation funding is intended to contribute to the day-to-day running costs of schools and consequently should be used to meet the cost of items such as heating, lighting, cleaning, insurance and general upkeep in schools.
