The Charities Act 2009 requires all boards of management to register their schools with the Charities Regulator and comply with certain reporting requirements annually.

If your school was established through the amalgamation of two or more schools, you should inform the Charities Regulator of the names and roll numbers of the amalgamated schools to ensure the charity record is accurate.

The Registered Charity Number (RCN) should be displayed on the school’s website, school headed paper and on any fundraising material used.

Annual Report: All registered charities must submit an Annual Report to the Charities Regulator each year. To assist schools, the FSSU provides financial information to the Charities Regulator, which is then pre-populated in the school’s Annual Report form. Schools must review this information and confirm that it is accurate by 30 June each year. See below for more information.

Board members details: Schools are required to keep their board of management details up to date on their Charities Regulator account. Whenever a new board takes office or there are changes to board membership, the school should update these details promptly to ensure the Register of Charities remains accurate and up to date. See below for more information.
